The short answer
Non-surgical facial rejuvenation combines treatments that work on different things: hydration and skin quality, collagen production, texture, support and expression lines. At YOU Medicine in El Poblado, Medellín, we start with a medical assessment to understand what is changing in your face and what bothers you, and only then propose a plan. This page explains each option —Profhilo, exosomes, PRP facial, microneedling, Sculptra and Botox—, what it is used for, what you can realistically expect, and how they are combined.

What is non-surgical facial rejuvenation?
With age, skin loses water, collagen and elastin, facial fat and bone shift, and expression muscles etch deeper lines. No single treatment addresses all of that. That is why we treat facial rejuvenation as a plan: one or more procedures chosen for your main concern, age, skin type, medical history and how much downtime you can take.
The aim is not to change your face but to help skin look more rested, even and hydrated, and to soften expression lines without freezing movement. Changes are usually gradual and responses vary, so we always explain what is reasonable to expect before you start.
What changes in the face over time
Facial ageing is not one thing. Skin loses collagen, elastin and hydration and becomes thinner and duller. Fat compartments in the cheeks and temples shrink or descend. Facial bone remodels too, especially around the eyes and jaw. And expression muscles leave increasingly visible lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes.
That is why no single treatment fixes everything. A good plan identifies what is changing in your case (skin quality, volume, expression lines or laxity) and picks the right tool for each, in the right order.
The options, one by one
These are the techniques we use most often. Each link goes to the treatment page with more detail.
- Profhilo — High-concentration hyaluronic acid that spreads through the skin to improve hydration and skin quality. It is not a filler and is not meant to add volume.
- Skin exosomes — Vesicles applied, usually with microneedling, to support skin recovery and quality. This is an evolving research area, and we explain what is known and what is not.
- PRP facial (platelet-rich plasma) — Prepared from your own blood and applied to the skin by microneedling or micro-injections to support texture, tone and glow.
- Microneedling — Controlled micro-channels that stimulate skin renewal. Useful for texture, pores and some acne scars; often combined with PRP or exosomes.
- Sculptra — A collagen stimulator (poly-L-lactic acid) that works gradually over several months. Suited to some cases of mild loss of support or laxity.
- Botox (botulinum toxin) — Temporarily relaxes specific muscles to soften forehead, frown and crow's-feet lines. Requires a medical assessment and an individual dose.
Which treatment for which concern?
This is a guide, not a prescription. Two people with the same concern may need different plans; laxity from deep fat loss is not treated the same way as thin, sun-damaged skin.
- Dehydrated, dull or finely crêpey skin: Profhilo, PRP facial, or microneedling with exosomes.
- Uneven texture, visible pores or acne marks: microneedling, alone or with PRP.
- Mild to moderate loss of firmness or support: Sculptra, after assessing anatomy and expectations.
- Dynamic expression lines (forehead, frown, crow's feet): Botox.
- Under-eyes, neck, décolletage and backs of hands: PRP, Profhilo or microneedling, depending on the case.
- Pigmentation and melasma: need a different approach; see tranexamic acid mesotherapy and strict sun protection.
Facial rejuvenation by area
- Forehead, frown lines and crow's feet: expression lines respond to botulinum toxin; fine lines that remain at rest improve with skin-quality treatments (microneedling, PRP, Profhilo).
- Under-eye area: needs careful assessment; PRP or a gentle biostimulator can improve skin quality, and not every dark circle is a candidate for filler.
- Cheeks and temples: where volume is lost, biostimulators such as Sculptra or, in selected cases, hyaluronic acid are considered.
- Nasolabial folds and marionette lines: often improve more by restoring mid-face support than by filling the fold directly.
- Neck and décolletage: Profhilo, PRP and microneedling are used for texture and glow; marked laxity may need a surgical option.
- Hands: thin skin and visible veins can improve with biostimulation and skin boosters.
How we combine treatments
Many people get a more balanced result when techniques that act on different layers are combined: Botox for movement, Profhilo or PRP for skin quality and Sculptra for support. Order and spacing matter. We generally let the skin recover between procedures that cause inflammation and avoid stacking several new products on the same day without a clear reason.
A typical plan is built in phases over weeks or months, with reviews to adjust. You receive it in writing, with the expected number of sessions and a personalized quote after your assessment.
What happens at the first consultation
- Medical history: medicines, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, autoimmune conditions, poor scarring or cold-sore tendency.
- Skin review in good light and, with your consent, clinical photos to compare at follow-up.
- A conversation about what bothers you, what you do not want changed and how much downtime you can accept.
- A proposed plan with alternatives, risks and aftercare, plus a written personalized quote.
Safety, side effects and who should wait
The most common effects are temporary: redness, mild swelling, small bruises or tenderness. With Botox, asymmetry or a mild eyelid droop can occur in uncommon cases; with collagen stimulators, nodules can form if technique or dilution are wrong. That is why indication and injection should be in trained medical hands.
We usually postpone or rule out some treatments during pregnancy and breastfeeding, active skin infections, cold-sore flares, some uncontrolled autoimmune conditions, bleeding disorders, or when expectations cannot be met. If a treatment is not right for you, we will tell you.
Before and after care
- If your doctor agrees, avoid anti-inflammatories and supplements that increase bleeding for a few days beforehand.
- Arrive with clean skin and no make-up, and tell us if you use retinoids or acids.
- Afterwards: daily sunscreen, no sauna or intense exercise for the time we advise, and no rubbing the area after Botox.
- Message us if you notice increasing pain, spreading redness or anything that worries you.
How to choose where to have facial treatment
- A physician should assess and treat you, and you should be able to verify their professional registration.
- You should be told which product is used, its brand and batch, and the product should carry INVIMA sanitary registration.
- You should be told clearly what is not right for you, not only what can be sold to you.
- There should be follow-up and a plan if a side effect appears.
- Be wary of “guaranteed” results, photos without context and pressure to decide on the day.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best facial rejuvenation treatment?
There is no single best option. It depends on whether your main concern is hydration, texture, firmness or expression lines. At your assessment we explain which option, or combination, makes most sense for your skin.
How much does facial rejuvenation cost in Medellín?
It depends on the treatments, number of sessions and areas. After your medical assessment we send a written personalized quote, with no obligation.
Will the results look natural?
That is the goal. We work with measured doses and gradual plans so the change shows in skin quality and a rested expression, not a different face. Responses vary from person to person.
How much downtime should I plan?
Most of these treatments let you return to your routine the same or next day. Redness, swelling or small bruises can last a few days, especially after microneedling, PRP and collagen stimulators.
Can I combine Botox with Profhilo or PRP?
Often yes, in the order and with the spacing your doctor recommends. The combination is decided at your assessment based on your skin and goals.
I am visiting Medellín for a week. Can I fit treatment in?
Often yes. Tell us your dates before you travel so we can plan the assessment and any treatment with enough time for review before you fly.
Do you speak English?
Yes. Care is available in English and Spanish at our El Poblado clinic.
Does non-surgical rejuvenation replace a facelift?
No. It improves skin quality, expression lines and some volume, but it does not replace surgery when laxity is marked. If we think surgery would serve you better, we will say so.
How often do treatments need repeating?
It depends on the treatment: botulinum toxin is usually repeated every few months, and biostimulators or skin boosters need an initial series plus maintenance. We give you a written schedule.
