Legitimacy & Regulation
YouMedicine (also operating as YOU Regenerative Medicine) is a legitimate private clinic in El Poblado, Medellín, focused on regenerative medicine. The clinic has been operating for several years with a high volume of international patients. Treatment is performed by licensed physicians at our registered clinic in El Poblado, Medellín.
In Colombia, INVIMA oversees biological products and clinics register with the Ministry of Health. That is not the same as FDA approval in the United States, and it does not mean stem cell therapy is approved for any specific condition. Stem cell therapy is still considered investigational for most conditions, and Dra. Laura Astorquiza will give you an honest assessment of whether you are a good candidate.
El Poblado, where the clinic is located, is one of the safer and more developed neighbourhoods in Medellín and is well-established for medical tourism. Thousands of international patients travel there annually for regenerative and aesthetic procedures.
Safety & Risks
YouMedicine uses both autologous cells — the patient's own, typically derived from adipose (fat) tissue — and allogeneic options, most commonly umbilical cord-derived MSCs. Autologous treatments carry essentially zero rejection risk. Allogeneic MSCs are processed to pharmaceutical-grade standards with full screening for infectious agents.
Risks are generally low when procedures are performed correctly, but they do exist: temporary swelling or discomfort at injection sites, mild flu-like symptoms after IV infusions, and a very low but non-zero risk of immune reaction with allogeneic cells. Serious complications are uncommon in experienced hands.
Results are never guaranteed. Regenerative treatments can reduce pain, improve function, and support tissue quality in many patients — but outcomes vary with age, severity of condition, overall health, and post-treatment care. Any clinic that promises guaranteed results is not being honest.

For conditions such as knee arthritis — including more advanced cases — many patients report meaningful reductions in pain and improved mobility. Regenerative treatments do not rebuild a completely destroyed joint, but they can calm inflammation and improve quality of life. Some patients still eventually require surgery; others delay it substantially.
The clinic commonly combines autologous stem cells with PRP for joint conditions. Treatment selection is individualized based on consultation and lab results.
Quick Treatment Comparison
Stem Cells (MSCs) — Living cells that modulate inflammation and signal tissue repair
PRP — Concentrated growth factors derived from the patient's own blood
Exosomes — Cell-signalling packages (no living cells)
Peptides — Short amino-acid chains used for targeted biological support
Timeline: Some patients notice improvement within 2–6 weeks. Joint benefits often continue to develop over 2–3 months. Duration of effect varies widely between individuals.
